Victorian Maple Chest of Drawers

This stunning antique maple chest of drawers was handmade in Victorian England and recently imported to our furniture store here in Atlanta, GA. The entire chest has been newly restored by a third-generation cabinetmaker, which helps to explain why the chest remains as sturdy and beautiful as it is today. The maple, for instance, with its rich bird's eye grain, displays a remarkably rich complexion and contrasts wonderfully with the solid brass swan neck pulls. The black columns and plinth base also form a pleasing contrast with the maple. The central drawer, which is part of an overall Scottish chest design, is actually a hidden desk section, which is lined with oak in addition to containing three drawers and four compartments.Of course, each drawer features hand-cut dovetails, which is one of the many markers of fine quality in this chest. Although the restoration was performed excellently, it does retain some wear that developed over the years, including slight crackling on the base and some wear marks along the edges and in the desk section. Otherwise, the desk does remain quite stunning and very strong. Overall, therefore, condition remains very good.
