This beautiful pair of rosewood consoles was recently handmade in England as a Victorian period reproduction. The rosewood itself shows a rich complexion and a pronounced grain that benefit from a fine wax finish, which both enriches and protects the natural beauty of the wood. The brass heads and feet, which form columns whose shape suggests the natural contours of the human body, contrast beautifully with the rosewood. They also position these consoles as examples of eclectic revivalism, which was a stylistic practice in Victorian cabinetry that involved a montage of periods and otherwise disparate design elements. Crossbanded edges around the tops, also rosewood, form an elegant border around the pieces. Because these consoles are newly English-made, they are very sturdy, although the tops did sustain some light scuffs in shipping, which is unusual with our furniture. Overall condition is therefore very good.
