Handmade in Georgian-period England around 1820, this wonderful chest exhibits all the fine quality and beauty characteristic of Georgian furniture. The flame mahogany, for instance, remains as rich and striking as ever, while the excellent choice in solid brass pulls and pierced backplates contrast beautifully with the wood. Traditional string ebony inlay adorns each of the drawers, which are positioned in a classic two-over-three drawer design, which was popularized during the Jacobean and Georgian periods. The elegantly shaped apron and splayed feet help to give the chest a comely appearance of elevation and spaciousness, while the rosewood crossbanding around the top of the chest looks quite stunning in contrast with the mahogany. Structurally, this chest remains as strong and stable as ever, although it has developed some crackling in the apron, face and top (see pictures). Otherwise, due to superb original construction and a recent re-polishing, this Georgian chest remains in excellent overall condition for a piece that is two hundred years old!
