This unique collectors chest was hand-crafted in Georgian England around 1820. The rich flame mahogany has developed a lovely patina over the years, with the result that the wood now displays a deep, lustrous complexion and a highly pronounced grain. Originally, this chest--which is now two separate pieces--was constructed as one piece: the smaller chest screwed into the larger one. Some time ago, however, the smaller chest was separated from its partner and given a set of bun feet; meanwhile, the screw holes in the top of the larger chest were filled in. Thus, this piece now offers even more versatility than it originally did, so you use both chests together or apart. Each piece remains in excellent condition, with only minimal wear marks--most of them on the tops--which is highly unusual for a piece that is two hundred years old. However, one of the knobs on the smaller chest and two on the large one have been replaced; the changes are subtle but, with a closer look, it is clear that the knobs on the third drawer down on the larger chest and the bottom-right knob on the smaller one have been replaced. Two small separations on the wood also appear on one the right side along with a small spot of wear. Structural integrity nevertheless remains very firm.
