This beautiful English mahogany antique secretary was hand-crafted in Edwardian England around 1900 by Davis & Son and recently imported to our antique furniture store here in Atlanta, GA. The maker is Over the years, the mahogany has developed a rich patina, which enhances its deep, mellowed lustre. Satinwood string inlays and rosewood banding provide subtle accents, while elegant solid-brass hardware contrast beautifully with the mahogany. The astragal glass doors are sturdy and operate smoothly, as do the drawers and fall; while the desk section locks, the bookcase and drawers do not. Each secretary drawer features hand-cut dovetailed joints, as was common in quality antique furniture, which signify sturdy construction and fine craftsmanship. The lower three drawers feature strong supports through their middles, ensuring long life and strong functionality. The top and bottom sections of the secretary separate easily for shipping and easy movement; the top secures into the base with sturdy wood pegs. Although this secretary bookcase remains very sturdy, it has sustained quite a bit of superficial wear, including chips in the feet, scuffs on the front, and scratches in the leather; overall condition is therefore very good. Like much antique English furniture, this antique secretary offers an elegant combination of utility and beauty that would make a fine addition to any home!
