Here we have a very unique and beautiful oak pedestal desk. This desk is a "Dickens" style desk, drawing its name from the type of desk the famous author Charles Dickens was known to use. This style of pedestal desk is characterized by the upwards slanting middle writing surface flanked by towers of drawers on either side. This particular Dickens desk has a brass plaque that reads "This library desk was presented as a parting gift to the Reverend Frederick Taylor Rector of St Bartholomews Heigham by his parishioners and congregation 1st July 1889". The writing surface of this desk is a beautiful brown leather with gold tooling borders. It is probably not the original leather of the desk, but would be very close to it. The multitude of drawers all lock with included keys and the desk sits on casters for easier moving. The desk also breaks down into three pieces (top section and two pedestals) ensuring you can get it through any door. The oak in this pedestal desk is in excellent condition and has a beautiful grain and color to it. The desk is very sturdy and in excellent overall condition. Don't miss out on this very unique historic furniture piece! The kneehole measures 20.5" wide x 23.75" tall. The surface of the desk is 30.5" from the floor.
