This beautiful mahogany antique linen press has a unique history spanning two-hundred years of English craftsmanship. The base was hand-crafted in England during the Georgian Period, probably around 1820, while the top was recently bench-made by a third-generation cabinetmaker to fit the base. The mahogany displays an impressive, rich complexion and a distinct grain, while solid brass hardware forms a wonderful complement to the wood. The combination of teardrop and dentil moulding also looks quite lovely, and the elegant splayed feet are as sturdy as they are beautiful. With a traditional two-over-three drawer design and a large TV cabinet, this antique linen press offers plenty of storage space; the doors fold flat against the sides, the shelves are fully adjustable on alligator brackets, and the cabinet locks with an accompanying key. There is no wear beyond normal stress marks, since the Georgian Period base was restored while the top was made. However, one of the sides has developed an age split, which is a natural separation between the boards that eventually occurs in all solid wood furniture. Otherwise, this English antique linen press is quite sturdy, and overall condition is excellent, particularly for a furniture piece that is nearly 200 years old.
