Here we have a Victorian period oak bookcase decorated with beautiful hand carvings. This stunning piece comes in two pieces (top and bottom) for easier moving. The hand carvings are definitely one of the most prominent features of this bookcase. The drawers and doors of the cupboard each feature a different carving depicting either pine cones, wheat, grapes, or other flora. Being made in England around 1890, the construction of this oak bookcase is very solid. The drawers are dovetailed front and back. The oak is considered "tiger oak" from the way it was cut leaving "stripes" in the grain which is quite desirable. Each of the three shelves at the top are stationary and fixed, they do not come out. The shelf in the cupboard section is removable and adjustable. Both the drawers and the cabinet doors lock with included key. This bookcase is in very good condition with no major cosmetic or sturctural issues. It does have old light scratches here and there that are less than normal wear for a piece of this age. Overall this Victorian bookcase is a amazing piece that would make a perfect addition to any home or office.
