This antique oak grandfather clock was crafted in England around 1757. Today, the oak remains as beautiful as ever, with a deep, lustrous complexion and a pronounced grain that is complemented by exquisite mahogany crossbanding. The clock face is constructed of brass, which remains quite brilliant, and inscribed at the bottom is the maker's name: Samuel Wright of Northwich. An excerpt from Edward Moore's poem, "The Happy Marriage," is inscribed on the door, which locks with an accompanying key. Although this clock is quite exquisite, it has sustained some surface wear, including minor separations in the base as well as a small chip on one of the sides. The clock mechanism itself, which operates on an eight-day movement, runs quite smoothly, as it was tuned up in 1996 by a professional clock repairman. Overall condition is therefore excellent for a clock that is close to three centuries old.
