Handmade in England around 1920, this gorgeous serving table represents the finest in English furniture. The solid oak, for instance, remains as beautiful as ever, with a rich complexion and a striking grain; the pleasant appearance of the oak owes its existence in part due to the development of a lovely patina, and in part due to the high-quality finishing process to which the wood was subjected during construction. The solid brass hardware also contrasts beautifully with the oak, while the barley twist legs make for an elegant appearance. Of course, this sideboard is as sturdy as it is lovely to behold, with a strong frame secured by a stretcher and dovetailed drawer construction. The serving table has sustained some superficial wear consistent with age, while the finish on the top has worn as well. The top has also developed a separation between the boards, often referred to as an age split, which occurs in all solid wood furniture; the separation was filled in with furniture wax some time ago. Overall, therefore, the condition of this serving table is very good.
