This charming antique oak secretary desk was English-made around 1940 and recently imported to Atlanta, Georgia. The style is reminiscent of a traditional English design originating in the Jacobean period, which is most characteristic in the paneled cabinet doors, shaped apron and bobbin-turned legs. The solid, quartersawn oak remains quite beautiful, with a rich complexion and a pronounced grain that have grown more beautiful over the years with the development of a lovely patina. The solid brass hardware also contrasts wonderfully with the oak, making this quite a stunning secretary. The single drawer features dovetailed joints, while the secretary fall, drawer and cabinet doors all lock with an accompanying key. The doors and interior of the fall have developed separations in the wood, which are natural developments common to solid wood furniture, while one of the back feet has recently seen repairs to old damage. The top contains four filled-in nail holes, so at one point in time this secretary had a bookcase sitting on top of it. The fall also operates a little stiffly and doesn't fully shut on one corner but otherwise, this secretary remains quite sturdy and thus overall condition is very good.
