This gorgeous antique oak sideboard was crafted in England around 1920. Over the years, a wonderfully rich patina has slowly settled into the wood, producing finally a deep, lustrous complexion and a highly pronounced grain. This process has proceeded with particular elegance because of the fine craftsmanship that produced this piece: the thick, high-quality finish is protected by a hand-rubbed coat of wax. Many oak antiques display a kind of rustic quality, but this sideboard was so finely crafted that its remarkable finish and even more remarkable carvings--especially a sign of quality for the period in which this piece was made--can stand alongside the finest furniture. Both cabinets lock with an accompanying key, and all drawers features hand-cut dovetailed joints, which are only one of many signs of the fine quality of this piece. Still, this sideboard has sustained a very minor amount of surface wear, including small stains in the counter, as well as minor dings here and there and wear to the finish on the sides. Otherwise, this antique sideboard remains in very good overall condition and would make a fine addition to any collection.
