This hand carved bookcase was originally crafted in Holland around the year 1890. The wood used on this bookcase is oak which has developed a lovely patina over the years. The top section has Corsica glass in it which adds a unique look to the piece. Both top and bottom sections house one shelf each and there is a single drawer for storage. The entire bookcase is finely decorated with carvings of lions, cherub heads, and floral decor. The lions heads at the top of the bookcase hold brass rings in their mouths, the lions on the bottom section do not. Both doors lock with included key. The drawer is fashioned with hand cut dovetails. Overall the bookcase is quite sturdy. There are a few minor flaws such as an age split on the right side and a repaired section of moulding at the top of the glass door. Besides minor wear consistent with age these are purely cosmetic issues and the piece is in very good shape. It does break down into top and bottom sections for easier transport. The relatively small width of this piece makes it ideal for filling smaller spaces in a variety of rooms.
