This carved oak dessert buffet is an absolutely stunning piece that comes from Holland. The oak has been carved in almost every square inch of this very impressive server with various Dutch folk and floral decorations. The top is inlaid with a beautiful white and brown marble that has no breaks or cracks. Traditionally this piece would have gone in a dining room and been used to server smaller courses, such as dessert. (hence the name dessert buffet) Today it would make a fine and functional piece in a number of rooms including the dining room, foyer, and hallway. There are two drawers each with a brass drop pull and dovetailed joints. There is also a locking cabinet for additional storage. Most of the carvings of the Dutch folk appear in pairs ( a man and woman). The columns that hold the top shelf up, the center carvings, and the door carvings are all a man in one carving and a woman in the other leading us to believe this could have originally been commissioned as a wedding present. There is part of a sticker left on the back which we have included a picture of. Besides minor wear and a small age separation in the top shelf, this buffet is in excellent condition and very sturdy. We believe this piece to have been made around 1900. Beautiful carved pieces like this are quite rare so don't miss out! This server does break down into two pieces (back splash and cabinet) so moving it is easy.
