This beautiful antique French Bombay style chest of drawers was crafted around 1960 and recently imported to our antique furniture store in Atlanta, GA, USA. The Bombay chest is a unique design of chest that generally is composed of a stout figure with a bulging center, which one can see in this chest, where it is coupled with a serpentine shape. This Bombay chest also features striking kingwood quarter-veneers, which contrast beautifully with the ornate pulls and gilding on the sabre legs, skirt and corners. The green marble top also looks beautiful sitting atop this Bombay chest, and does not secure into the chest base but, rather, sits on top by virtue of its own weight; this is a common design with antique style marble top furniture. Featured in this French Bombay chest are two large drawers, which should provide plenty of storage for your things. This French Bombay chest has sustained some wear, mainly in the form of spotting (see pictures), but it is as sturdy as ever and the drawers operate very smoothly, which is significant given their large size. This is a striking example of the French Bombay chest design and would make a lovely addition to any home furniture collection!
