This antique extending dining table was handmade in Victorian England around 1900. The walnut displays a deep, rich complexion and a pronounced grain that benefit from a lovely patina. The four cabriole legs end in pad feet and casters, the latter of which are necessary for the extending crank design that allows the addition of a 20" leaf. The original crank mechanism, manufactured by Joseph Fitter, still bears his Birmingham stamp. The table itself remains in very good condition, with a thick, high-quality wax coating that has proven very resilient over the years. There are places, however, where the table has sustained minor superficial wear marks and scuffs, particularly where the crank attaches to the end of the table, but also on the top, legs and skirt. Still, this elegant dining table remains as sturdy as ever, so overall condition remains very good, especially for a Late Victorian / early 20th-century piece.
