This bookcase, English-made in 1982 by Abbeycraft as a Georgian period reproduction, represents the finest in cabinetry from that time. Constructed with thick wood and high-quality bird's eye yew veneers, it is both remarkably sturdy and visually stunning, a fact enhanced by the astragal glass doors, solid brass hardware and dental moulding. Each drawer features dovetailed joints, and these particular dovetails look especially distinct for the period, representing yet another indicator of the fine quality and unique nature of this bookcase. Each door locks with an accompanying set of keys, while all upper shelves are fully adjustable. The top section simply rests on the bottom, so they will disassemble for shipping. There is very little wear on this bookcase, and that is mainly on the counter where moving the top on and off of the bottom has produced small scratches over the years. The escutcheons are also a bit tarnished, probably as a result of England's very humid climate. Otherwise, this Georgian style bookcase remains in excellent condition and would make a fine addition to any home furniture collection.
