     This stunning dining table is handmade in England from solid oak by a team of master craftsmen. From the techniques used to the materials themselves, this piece exhibits the highest level of quality available in the world of antiques and reproductions. The selection of solid oak displays a striking grain and a rich, lustrous complexion, complemented by a lovely border of hand-inlaid yew, satinwood or mahogany as well as by an optionally hand-distressed, spokeshaven (or hand-planed) surface. Spokeshaving is an old technique that English craftsmen have been using for many centuries, extending far back before sanding became popular alongside this ancient, time-honored technique. The sturdy, turned legs end in elegant pad feet, while the skirt on either table end is shaped quite beautifully.
      The great advantage of the loper--also known as "Irish Wake" or "drop leaf"--dining table is that the leaves drop down to the sides for easy movement, storage, and versatile utility. Whether used in dining, as a sideboard or as a hall table, this table offers three useful positions: both leaves up, one leaf up, and both leaves down. Because it is brand new, there is no damage and this table will last for centuries, continuing to grow more beautiful all the while.
